 M: Péngyoumen. Nǐmen hǎo! Huānyíng shōutīng Xiànzài Xué Hànyǔ. Wǒ shì ML. S: Wǒ shì Stuart. No wasting time, bú yào làngfèi shíjiān. Listen and repeat. We'll explain later. Xiànzài wǒmen kāishǐ. M: 白先生，您有没有兄弟姐妹 Bǎi xiānsheng, nín yǒu xiōngdì jiěmèi ma? S: I have one elder brother 我有一个哥哥 wǒ yǒu yí gè gēge. M: Any younger brothers? 您有弟弟吗 nín yǒu dìdi ma? S: 我有四个弟弟 wǒ yǒu sì gè dìdi. M: Any older sisters? 您有没有姐姐 nín yǒu méi yǒu jiějie? S: 我有九个姐姐 wǒ yǒu jiǔ gè jiějie. M: Nine older sisters! Any younger sisters? S: 我有十个妹妹 wǒ yǒu shíge mèimei. M: Ten younger sisters! I don't believe it, wǒ bù xiāngxìn. S: I'm joking, wǒ kāi1wánxiào. And we have to practice numbers. S: Now for the new stuff. Nǐ yǒu xiōngdì jiěmèi ma? M: We know xiong1 means ‘elder brother'. But we usually only use it in formal Chinese, like in ‘xiōngdì jiěmèi'. S: Did you hear me say, 我有一个哥哥. M: 哥哥 GE GE ge1ge, is what we use to say‘elder brother'. S: So everybody say, He has two older brothers. Hěn hǎo! 他有两个哥哥 tā yǒu liǎng gè gēge. M: And for younger brother we say 弟弟 DI DI dìdi. So everybody say, My younger brother has one son. Mei2 cuo4. 我的弟弟有一个儿子 wǒ de dìdi yǒu yí gè érzi. Actually, we usually omit the little de when saying my, or his brother or sister or other relation. So it becomes, 我弟弟有一个儿子 wǒ de dìdi yǒu yí gè érzi. S: My elder sister also has one son 我的姐姐也有一个儿子 or, wǒ jiějie yě yǒu yí gè érzi. M: You heard elder sister? Duì le. It's 姐姐 JIE JIE jiějie. S: Now everyone say, My elder sister is 26 years old. M: Hěn hǎo. 我姐姐二十六岁 wǒ jiějie èr shí liù suì. S: And the last of our siblings is ‘little sister', 妹妹 MEI MEI mèimei. So everyone say, I have fifteen younger sisters. M: Very good. 我有十五个妹妹 wǒ yǒu shí wǔ gè mèimei. S: shí wǔ gè mèimei! Oh dear! S: Hǎo le. That's our brother and sisters done. One thing about the pronunciation. Note that the first half is given it's full tone, while the second half is unstressed. Listen and repeat. M: 我有一个哥哥 wǒ yǒu yí gè gēge. S: I don't have a younger brother 我没有弟弟 wǒ méi yǒu dìdi. M: 我有两个姐姐 wǒ yǒu liǎng gè jiějie. S: 我没有妹妹 wǒ méi yǒu mèimei. M: And let's finish by asking, no help from us, How old is your méimei. S: Hěn hǎo. 你妹妹多大了？Nǐ mèimei duō dà le?
