The death toll in the massive earthquake that rocked southwest China's Sichuan Province exceeded 12,000 by 4 PM on Tuesday, with 26,206 people injured, 9,404 people buried, and 3.46 million households damaged, officials said at a press conference held by the Sichuan provincial government.

A bus numbered as Sichuan A50860 carrying 35 passengers was buried by a mud-rock flow in the territory of Maoxian County with no survivors.

The following is the death toll in different areas of the province:

Aba: 161; Mianyang: 7,395; Deyang: 2,648; Chengdu: 959; Guangyuan: 700; Ya'an: 15; Ziyang: 15; Meishan: 9; Bazhong: 8; Nanchong: 15; Suining: 21; Leshan: 7; Neijiang: 4; Ganzi: 8; Guang'an: 1; Luzhou: 1; and Liangshan 3.
