Having your lips analysed by a biometrics expert is a daunting prospect, especially when you have Angelina Jolie's results to compare them to

Unsurpisingly I didn't come close to the heights of Jolie's famous lips but I did walk away with some serious bragging rights.

Dr Kendra Schmid, a biometrics specialist from the University of Nebraska Medical Centre, is in Australia to talk about the lip attractiveness software she developed for Baileys.

She used this to analyse the lips of 40 celebrities with surprising results.

Angelina Jolie's full lips may be one of her most striking features but with a score of 7.89, they were outranked by the likes of Scarlett Johansson (9.66), Halle Berry (9.61) and Beyonce Knowles (8.65).

Taking the top spot with a perfect 10 was Italian actress Monica Belluci. Unsurpisingly she has also modelled for Dior lipstick.

"Monica Belluci's lips are really well proportioned," said Dr Schmid.

"Their width should be about twice the height and hers are almost exactly that, and then when you look at her lips in comparison with the rest of her face they just fit perfectly.

"With Angelina that's the first thing that you look at, just because they're very full and very noticeable, and her face is very slender, so maybe they are just a little bit too large with her face proportion."

Dr Schmid based the software on a program she wrote for her PhD that assesses the attractiveness of the whole face. To focus it down to lips she asked 100 men and women to rate the attractiveness of 200 different mouths.

"The main things [findings] were pretty consistent, the lips should be full but not overly full when you compare them to the size of the face, a smooth texture and a natural colour, not anything too bright or too dark," she said.

Thin lips or a wide lip area rated badly, she said.

In terms of Australian celebrities So You Think You Can Dance host Natalie Bassingthwaite came in at number one with a score of 9.39, followed by Kate Ritchie (9.06) and Megan Gale (8.60).

As for my lips, well I was relieved to hear that I clocked in at 5.92, largely because of their "natural pink" colour.

This ranks my lips as more attractive than those of Penelope Cruz (5.55), Natalie Imbruglia (5.44), Nicole Kidman (5.72) and Cate Blanchett (5.24).

I doubt I'll make it as a movie lip-double but it'll  make a good dinner party yarn for years to come. The trick will be getting my friends to believe me.
